Angelo Leo Talks Upcoming ShoBox Main Event Fight, Hopes A Win Opens The Path To Title Shot

Rising super bantamweight Angelo Leo is hoping a win in the main event of a Showtime-televised card from Las Vegas sets him on the path to eventually fight for a world title.

Although he’s a prospect with 16 pro bouts under his belt, Leo does have a bright future ahead of him and is marching towards a title opportunity. Leo is set to face off against Neil Tabanao on the April 5 ShoBox: The New Generation card in a 10-round bout. While Leo isn’t exactly high on anybody’s current list of top 122-pound boxers, a win over Tabanao would be the start of a big run for the next year.

“A win over Neil Tabanao will probably set me up for another 10-round fight and after that I will hopefully be competing on a world title eliminator. I think in the next two or three fights I’ll get a world title shot,” Leo said.

One thing that Leo is also looking forward to is the opportunity to not only fight on national television, but also be in the main event. Leo said it feels like a dream come true getting to fight on Showtime television.

“It feels like a dream come true to fight on national television. I’ve been working so hard for this moment. Finally, I get to show everybody who I am and what better way to do it than as the main event on TV. I’m going to take full advantage of this opportunity. Everyone will see what I’m all about,” Leo said.

In the co-main event of the card, Xavier Martinez will face John Vincent Moralde in a 10-round super featherweight bout. The opening bout of the telecast will see Angel Cortes take on once-beaten Jahmal Dyer in an eight-round super featherweight bout.
