Andrew Tabiti, Badou Jack & Gervonta Davis Pick Up Big Wins On The Mayweather – McGregor Pay-Per-View Card
The highly anticipated Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor pay-per-view card kicked off with three title fights and they didn’t disappoint.
In the opener, it was Andrew Tabiti defeating Steve Cunningham by unanimous decision to win the USBA Cruiserweight Title and retain the NABF Cruiserweight Title.
Tabiti used solid jabs and combo’s to keep the much older and powerful Cunningham at bay, getting arguably the biggest win of his pro boxing career.
Fightful’s Carlos Toro is providing live coverage of the event, here are the highlights from the final round:
Round 10: Tabiti starts off with a jab and then runs away. He moves around then throws another jab. This keeps going for almost a minute until Cunningham clinches with Tabiti. Tabiti misses with the right hand and then is put into the corner where Cunningham lands a few shots. Tabiti keeps moving around and Cunningham is frustrated with this tactic. Most of the round ends with clinching.
Fightful scored round 10 for Cunningham 10-9, making it 99-91 for Tabiti
Official result: Andrew Tabiti defeated Steve Cunningham via unanimous decision (97-93, 97-93, 100-90) to retain the NABF Cruiserweight Title
Badou Jack would win the WBA World Light Heavyweight Title in the second fight of the pay-per-view, you can read more about that by clicking here.
Gervonta Davis was supposed to defend the IBF Junior Lightweight Title at the event, but he missed weight and was stripped of the belt. Francisco Fonseca was still able to get the win the belt if he won the fight, but it was all for nothing because Davis earned a controversial KO win.
Davis dropped Fonseca in the 8th round with what seemed to be an illegal blow to the back of the head, followed by a push down that lead to the finish.
Fightful’s Carlos Toro is providing live coverage of the event, here are the highlights from the final round:
Round 8: Davis dodges a lead left from Fonseca and then connects a good right hand to Fonseca. Fonseca and Davis get tangled up and Davis lands a hard punch that lands to the back of Fonseca´s neck. Fonseca is on his knees and doesn´t get back up by the count of 10.
Official result: Gervonta Davis defeated Francisco Fonseca via KO, 0:39
