Andrew Moloney To Fight Miguel Gonzalez In WBA Super Flyweight Title Eliminator

Andrew Moloney may not get his shot at the WBA super flyweight title in his next fight, but will get a chance to move one step closer to a title fight.

Moloney will face Miguel Gonzalez on March 22 at the Gran Arena Monticello, in San Francisco de Mostazal, Chile. The fight pits No. 2 (Gonzalez) and No. 3 (Moloney) boxers in the WBA 115-pound rankings against each other in a title eliminator for Kal Yafai’s championship.

The 28-year-old Moloney will be traveling outside of his native country of Australia to fight for the first time in his pro career. Moloney has won a number of regional titles throughout his career, including the WBA Oceania super flyweight and bantamweight titles as well as the Commonwealth super flyweight title.

Moloney is coming off a 10th round stoppage win over former world champion Luis Concepcion this past September on a bout that was streamed in the United States on ESPN+. Moloney spoke to Fightful about wanting to fight Yafai in the future and can be read at this link.

Gonzalez is a Chilean boxer who sports a 29-1 record as a pro. Riding a 12-fight win streak, Gonzalez has held the WBA Fedelatin super flyweight title since 2015, making five successful title defenses. The 29-year-old Gonzalez fought three times in 2018, winning all three bouts with one of them coming from inside the distance.
