Alicia Napoleon To Defend WBA Women’s Super Middleweight Title On August 4
At least one world title fight will be a part of the August 4 boxing card at Nassau Coliseum.
Alicia Napoleon, the WBA women’s super middleweight champion, will defend her title against Hannah Rankin on the card per a press release sent to Fightful. On the press release, Napoleon expressed excitement over fighting Rankin and said she’s ready to defend her world title.
“I know how good Hannah Rankin is. She just won the WBC Silver Middleweight Title and she’s taller than me with a longer reach, plus she just finished training with Cecilia Braekhus. I’ve been training the whole summer and I’ll be ready to defend my title on August 4,” Napoleon said.
Napoleon, a New York native, won the WBA title in her last fight back in March on the undercard of Deontay Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title defense against Luis Ortiz. In that March world title win, Napoleon got a unanimous decision win over Femke Hermans. Napoleon is currently riding a two-fight win streak since suffering her only pro loss at the hands of Tori Nelson back in 2016.
Rankin will be challenging for her first world title in just her seventh pro fight. The 27-year-old native of Scotland is on a three-fight win streak, last winning the WBC Silver title by getting a unanimous decision win over Sanna Turunen.
The August 4 card will be a PBC on FOX card that will feature former middleweight champion Peter Quillin on the undercard and the main event will be a welterweight bout between former world champions Devon Alexander and Andre Berto.
