Abel Sanchez Calls GGG vs. Canelo Alvarez “A Career Defining Fight”
Gennady Golovkin‘s trainer Abel Sanchez expects the fight between Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez to be the biggest in Canelo’s career.
Talking to esnewsreporting.com, Sanchez said he expects the megafight to be a long one, but also said Golovkin is more than capable of beating Canelo up to the point where he can’t continue.
“In the past, I said Golovkin would knock him out in 8 rounds,” Sanchez said. “I now see it as a long fight. If Golovkin does stop him, it’s going to be a great fight and beats up on him and the guy can’t take no more, because Golovkin is the bigger and stronger guy.”
Sanchez praised Canelo, calling him the most skilled boxer Golovkin has ever faced. Sanchez thinks Canelo’s loss to Floyd Mayweather in 2013 humbled the Mexican star and has improved dramatically since the loss.
“I think this is a career defining fight,” Sanchez said. “I think Canelo will be the most skilled fighter we’ve faced to date. I don’t think he’s the biggest. I don’t think he’s the strongest puncher, but he’s probably the most skilled, because of what he’s done after the Mayweather fight. I think Floyd made him understand that it takes more than red hair and fast hands to be a great fighter. Floyd has the skills to make anyone look bad and he did that night. I think Canelo was a beneficiary of an education.”
Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez will take place on September 16 at a venue to be determined and it will be for Golovkin’s unified middleweight title.
