Former WWE Artist Tom Fleming Discusses Creating Concept Art For Adam Bomb

New insight on the creation of the Adam Bomb character.

WWE’s New Generation era was known for its outlandish characters. One of the characters that saw a moderate level of success was Adam Bomb, portrayed by Bryan Clark fresh off of a run in Smoky Mountain Wrestling as “The Nightstalker”

Former WWF Designer/Artist Tom Fleming, who worked for the company full-time from 1990-1994, recently made an appearance on the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast where he detailed putting together the concept art for the Adam Bomb character.

While the character Bryan Clark portrayed in WWE was known for his nuclear imagery, being billed from Three Mile Island, Fleming also says that there were other concepts in mind for the characters such as a medieval knight and a mercenary. Ultimately, he preferred the nuclear concept and so did Vince McMahon.

“They gave me a headshot of Bryan [Clark] and they just said ‘Come up with concepts’. It was a strange thing, being a comic book fan and aspiring artist. I moved on and did some sort of mercenary sort of idea. Then, I did a medieval knight kind of concept with chains. There was a biker look, a real kind of Harley biker look but all along I knew the nuclear concept was the one I preferred. When we laid the concepts out in front of Vince, he immediately chose that one,” said Fleming.

Elsewhere in the interview, Tom Fleming spoke about creating the gear for Razor Ramon, one of the most iconic characters in WWE’s New Generation era. Read more here
