Tom Fleming: Razor Ramon Told Me He Worked Too Hard On His Legs To Wear Pants
Razor Ramon wasn’t gonna let his hard gym work go to waste.
Razor Ramon was very specific about the gear he wanted to wear.
Former WWF Designer/Artist Tom Fleming, who worked for the company full-time from 1990-1994, recently made an appearance on the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast and shared a story about the time he was working on new purple pants for ‘The Bad Guy’ in 1993.
“This was one of the early costume designs I got. My boss Adriana and my buddy Jay were working on this concept. Those purple pants you referred to, those were designed by Jay. I didn’t like the purple pants look, I wanted to go all black, yellow and red. [The one I came up with] was the black pants with the razors all over them and the logo on the trunk part. My basic concept got chosen with Jay’s pants and Razor, I saw Razor down in the gym and he came over to me and said “I love the concept except for two things. One, I’ve been working way too hard on my legs and I need trunks not pants. Two, I definitely prefer the black and yellow.” I was like alright, I’ll tell you what. We’ll turn the pants into trunks and put the razor blades on the knee pads. He was like ‘That’s awesome.’
That gear design would go on to be very iconic as Ramon’s career went along, as he wore multiple it in multiple color schemes.
