Jonathan Gresham Says His Heart Is With The Indies, Still Wants To Face Bryan Danielson And CM Punk

Jonathan Gresham has been traveling the world since winning the ROH World Championship, defending the belt in various promotions and countries.

Gresham added to his collection of gold at PROGRESS Chapter 130 when he defeated Cara Noir to win the PROGRESS World Championship.

With Tony Khan buying Ring of Honor, Gresham’s future has been a topic in the wrestling world as fans have wondered if he will remain with the promotion, sign with AEW, or do his own thing.

Speaking to Sanchez Taylor of WrestleTalk after PROGRESS Chapter 130, Gresham commented on his future.

“I’m looking to enjoy my career, I’m looking to enjoy what I’m doing right now. I have freedom, I’m wrestling for all these different companies, and it’s just, wrestling is fun again. Wrestling was fun when I was contracted to Ring of Honor, but my heart is with the indies. I came from the indies, I learned my craft on the indies, and as long as I’m a part of it, I’ll continue to learn and get better and enjoy myself. There’s not a lot of restrictions, I can speak up without fear of repercussions or catching heat or whatever like that, and it’s just refreshing. It’s fun to wrestle the new guys that are coming up with fresh ideas, so I’m just enjoying it right now,” he said.

Fightful Select reported on March 16, “Fightful has learned that there have been assets produced indicating that Jonathan Gresham will be working under the Tony Khan umbrella” but it is unknown if it will be ROH or AEW.

Since winning the ROH World Title, Gresham has been strong in his desire to eventually face Bryan Danielson and CM Punk, believing he needs to restore honor.

Gresham once again echoed those sentiments, saying, “First of all, at the end of Final Battle, my goal was, and still is, to bring honor and prestige back to the Ring of Honor World Championship, and the only way for me to do that is to wrestle two men. But in order for me to do that, I must wrestle people like me, to prepare for these two matches – to face CM Punk and Bryan Danielson. That’s the only way I’m gonna be able to restore honor to the Ring of Honor World Championship. So I’m waiting for those two matches, in time those two matches will happen, but at the moment I have to fight and wrestle some of the best that the world has to offer, so that’s what I’m doing. I asked for it and companies all over the world have asked to host Ring of Honor World Title matches. So that’s what you’ve been seeing over the last few months.”
