Virtual Basement: Kurt Angle’s Inclusion In The Wrestling Code Is Not Why He’s Absent From WWE 2K22

An update on Kurt Angle’s absence from WWE 2K22.

Kurt Angle’s inclusion in WWE 2K22 seems as though it would have been a slam dunk given that the Showcase Mode this year revolves around Rey Mysterio and Rey Mysterio had many significant victories over Kurt Angle.

Rey Mysterio’s first match on WWE pay-per-view was against Kurt Angle in the opening match at SummerSlam 2002, Rey Mysterio also defeated Kurt Angle and Randy Orton to win his first WWE World Championship at WrestleMania 22 in 2006.

Despite this, Kurt Angle is absent from this year’s WWE game offering. Kurt Angle was, of course, released by WWE on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at the start of the global pandemic.

While no official reason may ever be given for Kurt angle’s absence from this year’s video game, his inclusion in Virtual Basement’s upcoming video game, “The Wrestling Code” is not one of the reasons.

Virtual Basement told Mike Straw of Sports Gamers Online that they would never exclude someone from being in an outside project.

“No, we don’t restrict talent from being in other games or doing business with their brand,” Lead Designer Ashton Andersen said. “We treat talent like actors where they can be in as many movies as they want. The Wrestling Code is just one of those movies.”

Recently, Mike Straw shared a report on our premium service, Fightful Select, about the future of WWE video games and WWE having preliminary talks with EA Games about potentially being involved in the future of the franchise.

Straw was also on our Twitch channel recently with Jeremy Lambert as Jeremy tested out WWE 2K22. Our Twitch channel will once again be streaming WWE 2K22 later today.
