Matt Cardona Wins NYWC Championship, Now Holds Six Belts

Move over Kenny Omega, there’s a new belt collector in town.

Matt Cardona returned to his home promotion of the NYWC on Saturday, February 26 and he is now, for the first time in his career, the Heavyweight Champion of that promotion.

On Instagram, Cardona spoke about how he never wanted to actually win the title when he was wrestling for the promotion because his main goal was to get signed and he never wanted to be around long enough to actually hold the championship.

As it turns out, he achieved that goal, and now, after not having competed for the promotion since 2006, he has won their World Championship and that marks the sixth championship that he now holds.

I started training at @nywcwrestling in 2003. I never wanted to be NYWC Champion. I didn’t want to be there long enough for that to happen. I wanted to get signed…I wanted to become a wrestling superstar….and I did.

I hadn’t been in a NYWC ring since 2006. Last night I returned at Psycho Circus. I tried doing something nice for the NYWC Universe. I tried giving @nobodysbetta the rub by accepting his open challenge. But I wasn’t welcomed back with open arms. Guys in the locker room like @dickierodz2000, @thedanbarry, @greekgodpapadon, & @kingmega_ygb wouldn’t even shake my hand. @uhohitsthebigo legit left the building. The crowd BOOED when I won the NYWC Championship.

I don’t know if you’ll ever see me in a NYWC ring ever again after that blatant disrespect.

P.S. I now have 6 fucking titles!

In addition to this title, Matt Cardona is the Internet Champion, having won the title back from EFFY months ago, and the IMPACT Wrestling Digital Media Champion. He also holds two championships from Absolute Intense Wrestling, the AIW Intense Championship, and the AIW Absolute Championship.

Perhaps most importantly, he holds the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He made history when he became the first NWA World Champion to walk out on GCW programming at GCW Welcome to Heartbreak.
