Mikey Rukus Working On AEW Symphony Album, Discusses ‘Who We Are’ Album

Mikey Rukus is always creating. 

Rukus has been creating themes for AEW stars since he signed with the company in May 2019. Starting with Nyla Rose’s theme, Rukus has put together the entrance themes for the like of Adam Cole, Ricky Starks, Sting, and more. 

For February, Rukus is teaming with members of the AEW roster and other creators to put together Who We Are: A Celebration of Excellence, which is available on February 18. 

“I was looking for different ways to be innovative, and wanted to give as much of an expansive experience and audio experience to the fans as possible. This wasn’t just about writing theme music and sending it up and then waiting for the next call about writing theme music. I wanted to do something that impacted culture and had a deeper meaning than just making music. I pitched the idea last November. And rather than me writing all the music, I assembled a team of producers and artists that are familiar to the wrestling music space. And we just went to work,” said Rukus in an interview with Slam Wrestling.

The album will tell the stories of more than 20 of AEW’s Black wrestlers through hip-hop and R&B collaborations between the wrestlers and established music artists. 

“We wanted to tell their personal stories, as much as they were comfortable sharing. Each song is like a 30 for 30 special wrapped up into song form for each of the talents. Some of them had been waiting to opportunity for something like this for a long time. So when they got the call, you know, they were ready to go,” he said.

Who We Are: A Celebration of Excellence isn’t the only album Rukus is working on as he revealed that an AEW symphony album is also on the docket for 2020. 

“Currently, I’m working on an AEW symphony album, where we’re doing symphonic arrangements of some of the more popular theme songs. We have some great surprises coming up in 2022,” he stated.

Wrestlers such as Jade Cargill, Red Velvet, The Acclaimed, Scorpio Sky, Will Hobbs and artists like Mega Ran, Righetous Reg, Will Washington, Josiah Williams will be featured on the Who We Ae album.
