Sami Zayn Would Love To Do A Modernized Version Of What Bret Hart Did In 1997
Sami Zayn would love to re-imagine one of WWE’s most famous storylines.
In 1997, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart and the rest of the Hart Foundation (Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, Davey Boy Smith, & Brian Pillman) feuded with the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels (among others), proudly flying the Canadian flag while pointing out some of, what they believed to be the not-so-great-things about the United States of America. A villain Stateside but cheered nearly everywhere else worldwide, Hart became a truly polarizing and compelling character.
Contributing to a Sportsnet feature entitled Oral History: How Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart became the Excellence of Execution, WWE Superstar and Quebecois native Sami Zayn said he’d love to do something similar today.
“I would love to do a more modernized version, a bit more of an intellectual approach, a bit more of a factual approach to what Bret did in 1997 because I thought it was revolutionary,” Zayn said. “It’s never been done before and it’s never been done since. Global hero, despised in one country like that. It was revolutionary, we all remember it, we all rave about it to this day.”
Sami Zayn most recently competed at the Royal Rumble, most notably eliminating Johnny Knoxville. He can be seen every Friday on WWE SmackDown.
On January 20, Fightful reported that Sami Zayn had re-signed with WWE for “several” more years. He would later confirm the report and explain his thought process in re-signing. Click here to read his comments.
