Chris Weidman Says Bipsing vs. GSP Fight Sucks
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman is preparing for war against Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210.
Current UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping will defend his gold against former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre later this year. Weidman believes that the fight itself sucks for the UFC Middleweight Division.
“It’s definitely holding up the division which sucks for everybody in the middleweight division.," Weidman said to MMA Fighting. "I understand GSP, he gets the opportunity to fight for the middleweight title against a guy who’s probably less dangerous for him than even at welterweight, fighting a guy like Tyron Woodley. It’s a great opportunity for GSP so I understand where he’s going."
Weidman has yet to face either Bisping or GSP during his professional MMA career.
Even though he dislikes the fight, the former middleweight champion says it’s a great opportunity for Bisping.
“Bisping, it’s a great opportunity for him. He gets to make a lot of money fighting GSP and it’s a guy who’s coming up from welterweight who hasn’t fought in three years and, again, he’s not fighting a top contender in the middleweight division. So for those two guys it’s working out great, but for the rest of the division, it kind of sucks,” says Weidman.
UFC 210 takes place on Saturday, April 8 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York with Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson headlining. Fightful will be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
