Ray Borg Wants Flyweight Title Fight

Ray Borg defeated Jussier Formiga by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 106.

With the win behind him, the flyweight contender feels like he’s ready for a flyweight title opportunity.

“I see myself just moving up,” Borg told MMA Junkie. “Whether it’s moving up for a title shot – I rise to the occasion very well. If they want me to fight for the title, I’ll show up, and I’ll fight of the title, and I’ll win it. But other than that, if they want me to go back and fight the winner of (Henry) Cejudo vs. (Sergio) Pettis (at UFC 211 in May) or anyone else they have in mind, then let’s do. It’s whatever the UFC wants me to do.”

UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson will be defending the title against Wilson Reis next month at UFC On Fox 24. Borg still feels like the kid from the ghetto, even with a potential title shot looming.

“It makes sense (to fight for the title),” Borg said. “Formiga’s a high-level black belt, and I’m just a kid from the ghetto in a small town, and I out-scrambled him, I out-grappled him, and he beat Wilson (in 2015). Wilson is fighting for the belt. Why wouldn’t it make sense? I’m comfortable with just going with the flow. If they want me to wait, let’s wait. If they want me to fight for it right away, let’s fight for it right away. If they want one more fight, I’m good. I’m just enjoying the ride. I’m taking it one step at a time, and we’ll see where it goes from here.”

The win for Borg was his fifth under the UFC banner. Borg has had trouble making weight in his career, which could cause a title opportunity to be an uphill climb
