Kelvin Gastelum Tears Into GSP
Kelvin Gastelum earned his third win at middleweight at UFC Fight Night 106 after finishing Vitor Belfort with strikes in the first round.
Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre will be challenging for the UFC Middleweight Title later this year. Gastelum isn’t much of a GSP fan right now.
“What’s the point of having contenders, what’s the point of having rankings if we’re not going to follow the rankings, if we’re not going to follow the No. 1 contenders? It just doesn’t make any sense,” Gastelum told MMA Junkie. “Now, everybody wants those big ‘money fights,’ and it just doesn’t make any sense to have any rankings if we’re going to keep doing that kind of stuff.”
The TUF champion is currently undefeated in the middleweight division at 3-0-0. There is another legend that Gastelum would like to vanquish in the form of former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.
“He’s a big name,” Gastelum said. “He’s another legend, and he’s ranked above me. I want the fight that will eventually lead me to a title shot.”
Gastelum also holds wins over Nate Marquardt, Uriah Hall and Tim Kennedy at middleweight.
