Prelim Fights to Watch at UFC 269
There is probably no better time to be an MMA fan. The UFC has really gone all out with their last three PPV cards of the year. UFC 267, 268, and 269 all have ridiculously stacked cards for the fans. With amazing main events and top quality fighters from top to finish, it’s hard to complain as a fight fan.
Looking ahead to the last PPV of the year, UFC 269 on December 11, it definitely has some amazing fights. Headlined by the lightweight title bout between Charles Olivera and Dustin Poirier, the card features many great fighters. On the main card, some of the fighters worth tuning in for are the likes of Amanda Nunes, Jorge Masvidal, and Sean O’Malley. However, you would really be missing out if you only tuned in for the main card. Prelim action at UFC 269 is definitely not to be missed. There are some amazing fights that will fly under the radar come fight week. Here are some of those fights that you don’t want to miss.
Geoff Neal vs Santiago Ponzinibbio
If it weren’t for the fact UFC 269 is so stacked, this matchup would, without a doubt, be on the main card. Geoff Neal really put the welterweight division on notice when he joined the UFC in 2018. He went on a five-fight win streak, getting four finishes in that period. However, back-to-back losses against the division’s elite have seen him drop to number 11 in the rankings. He will face Argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio, who was on the verge of a title shot when at the top of his game. Over two years out of the octagon, he pickled up a KO loss to Li Jingliang in his return. However, he bounced back with a victory over Miguel Baeza. Currently it’s unclear who the favorite will be in this bout, with bookmakers like Betway yet to price up the fight.
Pedro Munhoz vs Dominick Cruz
Both Pedro Munhoz and Dominick Cruz will be looking to get their momentum going in one of the toughest divisions in the UFC. Munhoz is coming off a loss to Jose Aldo, while Cruz’s last outing saw an impressive display over Casey Kenny. Two of the toughest men in the division will, without a doubt, put on a fight of the night contender come December. This bantamweight matchup will see some of the most elite striking of the night, with both men needing a win to stay relevant in the title picture.
Alex Perez vs Matt Schnell
Flyweight action will see number 4 ranked Alex Perez face off against number 9 Matt Schnell. This fight could really help to give some clarity to the flyweight division. A win for either fighter will put them into contention for a shot at the title. Perez is coming off of a failed title challenge but will be looking to avenge that loss as soon as possible.
