Drew McIntyre Wants To Cross-Promote SummerSlam 2022 With The Nashville Predators Hockey Team
Drew McIntyre wants the Nashville Predators hockey team involved in the build to next year’s SummerSlam.
WWE will be hosting SummerSlam in Nashville, Tennessee next year during their first-ever July SummerSlam in history as SummerSlam had to Nissan Stadium in Nashville on July 30, 2022.
In years past, WWE has often tried to get outside entities from the world of sports and entertainment to add an extra layer of star power to major WWE events. In the past, names like Shaquille O’Neal, Lawrence Taylor, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali, have all been utilized in WrestleMania events. There was one year where Justin Bieber was even scheduled to have a match against The Wyatt Family at a SummerSlam.
This year, with SummerSlam heading to Nashville and Drew McIntyre now being a native of Nashville, he is hoping to have some involvement from the Nashville Predators hockey team.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Battleground Podcast, Drew McIntyre revealed that he has already pitched some ideas to both the management and the players for the hockey team for cross-promotion that would go beyond WWE Superstars just attending hockey games and vice versa.
“Absolutely. I know I was pitching some crazy ideas last night when I was talking to the management for the Predators and the players. I was like, you know, you’ve obviously got your big games. We’ve got SummerSlam coming up and I think they’ve got a game around about the same time and I started pitching, You know what? There may be some cross-promotion here and not just your average cross-promotion where, you know, we show up at the games, etc. I imagined it more as the wrestlers playing hockey, the hockey players wrestling, something real crazy. I don’t know if WWE will go for it, but I’ve seen things way outside of the box with cross-promotion,” Drew said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Drew McIntyre spoke about his desire to have Willie Nelson play him to the ring in Nissan Stadium at next year’s SummerSlam. Learn more here.
