Conor Benn To Face Chris Algieri On December 11

The young Conor Benn finally has a new opponent, as he is set to face former champion Chris Algieri in a Liverpool showdown.

It was announced that Benn, 25, will fight Algieri inside the M&S Bank Arena on December 11. This will be the fourth fight for Benn in 2021 and the second for Algieri.

Benn, 25, made his professional debut in 2016. “The Destroyer” beat Cedrick Peynaud back in 2018 to become the WBA Continental (Europe) Welterweight Champion. He has defended the belt five times, his last bout against Adrian Granados in September.

“We expect Algieri to bring his best, but I want him deep in the trenches with me, I want to use this opportunity to display my skills and ability against a quality fighter to prepare me and take another step closer to a World Title. A former World Champ vs. a very, very hungry contender, I can’t wait for December 11,” Benn stated.

Algieri made his pro debut in 2008. Primarily fighting out of The Paramount on Long Island, Algieri won the WBO Junior-Welterweight Title against Ruslan Provodnikov in 2014. He would lose the title to Manny Pacquiao right after. After losing to Amir Khan and Errol Spence Jr., Algieri has gone on a four-fight win streak. His last bout was a unanimous decision win against Mikkel LesPierre in August.

This will be the first time Algieri has fought in England.

“December 11 with be a masterclass with me utilizing my deep bag of skills and experience,” Algieri would state. “Benn is hungry and tough but this is a huge step up in class for him. I’m coming to show that it’s not his time yet. I still got the goods and the world will see it once again come fight night.”

Also on the card will be WBA, WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring Lightweight Champion Katie Taylor. As of now, an opponent has not been named for her.
