Kofi Kingston Says ‘The Power Of Positivity’ Is Not Just A Gimmick

Kofi Kingston likes to practice what he preaches.

In the seven years since the New Day formed, they have consistently spoken about the “Power of Positivity.” For Kofi Kingston, however, that slogan is more than just a catchphrase, it’s a way of life.

Appearing on Into The Danger Zone with Chris Denker, the former WWE Champion spoke openly about mental health and how more of a spotlight is being shone on it than ever before. Kingston wants to help people be the best versions of themselves and is more than happy to open up and offer support to those who need it.

“We all have ups and downs,” he began by saying. “We talk about the power of positivity. For us, and me in particular, it’s not just a gimmick. We don’t go out and be like, ‘be positive’ and then walk through the curtain and don’t practice what I preach. That’s actually how I feel about the majority of what goes on in life. When you have a positive attitude, you attract that same positivity to you. Negativity breeds negativity. When you get down on yourself or you start to look at things with a glass half empty mentality, that all piles up. Your outlook on life affects the way you live in the present. Mental health, I’m glad it’s been getting more a spotlight and shine over the past couple of years where you have people in prominent positions, especially athletes, who are talking about their mental health issues and struggles because being able to hear somebody who you think has a perfect life and you see that person give you insight into what’s actually happening and you’re like, ‘they are just like me.’ For a lot reasons, for people being able to identity with us, it’s important we are open or as open as you can be. It’s helpful. I just want to help people. I want to help people become the best versions of themselves and if I can help you get through a struggle by opening up a little and letting you know that I am in support of you and letting you know where you can get help if you feel down or in a certain mood, I’m more than happy to do that. Just being aware of your mindstate is so important. Be positive. Even going out and forcing yourself to smile can bring positive endorphins to your body and your body feels that and you start feeling better. I encourage people to have the glass half full mentality and take things one step and one day at a time. Have faith things will get better and often times they do.”

Kingston currently performs on the SmackDown brand, recently being knighted by King Xavier Woods.
