Justin Gaethje is known for his all out fighting style, willing to throw caution to the wind and take a punch to give two.
Jon Moxley appreciates that kind of style and likes his wrestling matches to take on a similar psychology.
Speaking to Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement, Moxley heaped praise on Gaethje ahead of his fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 268.
“I love Justin Gaethje so much. He’s my guy. I’ll never not bet on him or cheer for him. All due respect to Michael Chandler, I like him too, but damn I love Justin Gaethje. How can you not? Just, zero fucks. His style before he decided, ‘Okay, I actually want to try and win the world championship,’ and he changed his style to be more technical when he fought Tony Ferguson for the first time. Before that, when he was balls out, leg kick crazy machine, and every single fight was fucking insanity, I was like, ‘That type of psychology, that kinda like what my matches should be,’ just balls out, fuck you, let’s fucking go. I don’t care if this goes five minutes, fuck it, I can relate to that type of thing. He’s much scarier now that he’s more technical and does show more restraint and isn’t completely in your face with the balls out aggression,” said Moxley.
When asked which fighter he models his wrestling style after, Moxley said, “Justin Gaethje before he got smart. World Series of Fighting Justin Gaethje, that’s what I’m going for. I’m not that smart and I’m not going to get smart.”
Gaethje and Chandler will be part of an undercard that features two title fights including Kamaru Usman against Colby Covington for the Welterweight Championship and Rose Namajunas against Zhang Weili for the Women’s Strawweight Championship.
As for Moxley, it was recently announced he has entered an inpatient alcohol treatment program.
Fightful will have coverage of UFC 268 beginning at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday.
