TAELER: A New Era Reigns Over The Knockouts Division
IMPACT Wrestling’s biggest PPV of the year saw some incredible bouts and some equally intense shakeups the preexisting landscapes in the company. Bound for Glory featured high profile debuts. An emotionally charged Hall of Fame ceremony. And several title changes! One such shakeup resulting in a title change was the Knockouts Championship. The Virtuosa Deonna Purrazzo would square off against the very woman she used to look up to and vicously attacked, Mickie James.
The lengthy history surrounding the Knockouts Championship while not as old as some, it still reads like a who’s who of women’s wrestlers that this generation and the next should be irrevocably grateful for. Grateful for the doors they opened. Grateful for the dedications. Grateful for the rewards we receive today based on the opportunities that they were given with which they used to showcase their exemplary talents. The Knockouts Championship dating back to October 2007, we look at Gail Kim, Awesome Kong, Roxxi Laveaux, Daffney, Hamada, Jackie Moore, Taylor Wilde, Tara, Taya Valkyrie, Christy Hemme, Sarita…this list goes on.
Since her WWE release and her subsequent IMPACT Wrestling debut, The Virtuousa Deonna Purrazzo has been a one woman force to be reckoned with. Not much has eluded her. A statement backed up by her being named the 2020 IMPACT Wrestling Wrestler of the Year. She became quite comfortable as she supplanted Jordynne Grace and sat herself in the pinnacle seat at the top of the Knockouts Division. And thus the Age of the Virtuosa reigned supreme from that year through the next. The next that is until Bound for Glory.
Until Bound for Glory Deonna Purrazzo had overcome and circumvented each and every obstacle thrown her way. Melina. Thunder Rosa. Jordynne Grace. Surprise opponents. Gauntlets. An Iron Woman match. A King and Queen Tournament. Veterans and novices. A Reina De Reinas Title….again the list goes on. But at Bound for Glory, arguably The Virtuosa’s toughest obstacle stared right back at her and didn’t flinch. The Virtuosa Deonna Purrazzo had her coveted Knockouts Championship Title on the line when she went one on one against one of her idols, Hardcore Country herself, Mickie James!
As the title of this feature suggests, in the end, Mickie James proved too high a mountain for Purrazzo to climb and overcome. There’s very little that Mickie James hasn’t seen or done in IMPACT Wrestling and most assuredly in the industry. As a pillar representing how far IMPACT has come in the years since her exit from the company, it was the homecoming she deserved and secured the gold to match the occasion. Mickie James did what all others failed to do since mid 2020, she defeated Deonna Purrazzo to become the new IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion. And with that victory, a new era is ushered into IMPACT Wrestling marking the end to the age of the Virtuosa…
