TAELER: Toxic Attraction Reigns Supreme After Halloween Havoc
As discussed Halloween Havoc is an event in celebration of the spookiest month of the year, and with the event’s penchant for violence preceding it, WWE NXT 2.0 would not be the same. On the line were quite a few NXT Titles. And with horror icon Chucky introducing the evenings chilling festivities, it’s safe to say that it would not be the typical day at the office for the stars of NXT. This year, the show promised fierce matches for championship gold and that’s exactly what they did. The word of the day was violence. And the who’s who of NXT all showed up and went to war for the promise of advancement and WWE gold.
With violence imminent the WWE Universe tuned in to see a killer Fatal 4-Way match for the NXT Championship. The hard-hitting Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal, NXT Women’s Title bout with Raquel Gonzalez versus Toxic Attraction’s Mandy Rose. The incipient arrival of Bron Breakker, who made an immediate impact of which led to a most advantageous encounter with The Blackheart in an NXT Championship title shot. MSK faced Imperium again and this time it was in their own Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal bout for the Men’s NXT Tag Team Titles. Plus the debut of Solo Sikoa. An open house of sorts with Gargano and Lumis. And of course the focus of this feature, the Scareway To Hell Ladder Match for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles…
First off, did anyone else “Scareway to Hell” as if they were Led Zeppelin? No? Just me? Okay… Anyway, this was a huge night for Toxic Attraction. Some particularly bold words needed to followed up by even bolder actions for Toxic Attraction who found themselves in two major title matches at Halloween Havoc. And setting the tone for the rest of the show was indeed the Scareway To Hell Triple Threat Tag Team match for the coveted NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles. After clashing for weeks, the then NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Io Shirai and Zoey Stark would defend their belts against the teams of Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta, and Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne. Gigi and Jacy had a big night ahead of them as they walked into this bout.
Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne needed to make good on their actions. Never being women to mince words, they needed to back those words up proving their talk isn’t cheap and they make good on what they say. Even more important, they needed to prove their worth after aligning themselves with Mandy Rose to form the dangerous team we now know as Toxic Attraction. In all, it was time for them to show up, back it up, and pay up. They had a job to do and that included bringing back some WWE NXT gold to Toxic Attraction. While their counterpart was laying in wait for her own title bout, the remaining two members of Toxic Attraction took the competition and the violence to Stark, Shirai, Hartwell, and Pirotta in the Scareway to Hell Ladder Match.
Ultimately as the match unfolded the other teams strategized and took out Dolin and Jayne early on. Each going for ladders as is expected in pretty much every ladder match and from there you can guess what happens next. Overall, there were some mixed reviews and match grades, which as you already know, I say is opinion and up to interpretation. I also tend to take critiques less seriously from negative critics who have never set foot in a ring and performed these types of matches. It’s rare for a match of this type and with this many players to go one hundred percent perfect. There’s a lot going on. There’s a lot of limbs moving about. Slow down. Speed up. Catch this person. Stall that person. Wait for this camera angle. Count to five and then jump and hope people are where they need to be. Time things out perfectly on live TV and prepare for commercial break cuts. Play to the crowd. Sell. Don’t get hurt. Metal flying everywhere. The noise. The ring moving under your feet. Agents yelling into your ref’s ear and your ref communicating to you. That was a lot to read wasn’t it? Imagine have to perform that and not just reading that.
Nevertheless, in the end, yeah some things didn’t go according to plan. Yeah some things could have been better. But overall, the ladies performed their hearts out for Halloween Havoc and as we know, there can only be one winning team in a triple threat match and that was the excellent teamwork of Gigi Dolin and Jacy Layne of Toxic Attraction. Gigi Dolin was able to climb up the opposite side of the ladder against a distracted Indi Hartwell who in turn got the business end of an expertly timed offensive maneuver by Jacy Jayne resulting in Gigi Dolin gripping her fingers around and pulling down the coveted NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles! Toxic Attraction beat the odds and defeated The Genius of Sky Io Shirai and Zoey Stark and Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta.
I give this match a solid B. In my opinion there was so much good here that outweighed any complaints I saw online. This was a quintessential spot-heavy emotionally gut-wrenching ladder match. They didn’t shy away from the hard hits or the scary landings. In all actuality they put their careers on the line. They told a story and committed themselves to the performance. A match like this is dangerous and truly shows how passionate these ladies are in regard to their craft and the entertainment of the WWE Universe. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that matches of this nature weren’t even given to women, and the women’s matches were barely five minutes long. And all six women went into this match with the sole purpose of kicking ass and representing NXT 2.0 which I think exemplifies the promising future of WWE with stars like this aiming to reach their fullest potentials in NXT.
In my opinion as a woman in wrestling I believe the right team won in Scareway To Hell. After the intense build up, interferences, promos, and segments, Toxic Attraction needed this win. If not it would have all been for naught. Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne have a promising future as members of Toxic Attraction, a mutually advantageous partnership of the most vicious kind. Toxic Attraction was perhaps the faction and stars that benefitted most from Halloween Havoc as they swept away all the gold they were after in the NXT Women’s Division. After surviving Scareway To Hell, Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne are your new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. And thus the Toxic Attraction era begins reigning supreme in NXT!
