Cynthia Calvillo Achieved Dream Of Competing For UFC
Cynthia Calvillo made her UFC debut this past Saturday Night at UFC 209 and she submitted Amanda Cooper with a rear naked choke.
Following the cancelation of the Khabib Nurmagomedov/Tony Ferguson fight, Calvillo and Cooper got to compete on the UFC 209 main card.
“Anybody’s dream would be on the main card with Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt and (Tyron) Woodley and (Stephen) ‘Wonderboy’ (Thompson),” she said after UFC 209. “I was just embracing it to the fullest, because I train so hard for this. So, so hard. I’m going to (expletive) enjoy it.”
The female strawweight competitor used to work at The Cheesecake Factory while pursuing her MMA career. Calvillo then took the fight with Cooper on less than three weeks' notice.
“He (UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby) said, ‘Are you interested?’ I said, ‘Hell yeah. I said 100,'” Calvillo said. “It doesn’t matter if you put me in the first fight or the (expletive) main event – I’m ready,”
The undefeated fighter currently holds a 4-0-0 record as a professional MMA fighter and an 5-1-0 record as an amateur. During those fights as an amateur, Calvillo earned a unanimous decision win over Invicta Fighting Championships veteran Aspen Ladd. The former Cheesecake Factory employee trains with Team Alpha Male.
