Sha Samuels Received A WWE Contract Offer In 2019, But Wasn’t Medically Cleared
Sha Samuels is opening up about a past WWE contract offer that was ultimately reneged because he was deemed medically unfit.
Sha Samuels is currently on the NXT UK roster but he could have been in the system prior to the global pandemic if not for his health getting in the way.
In a new interview with Metro, Samuels reveals that he actually received the WWE contract offer in 2019 but was ultimately unable to pass their medical tests leading to WWE reneging the offer and suggesting to revisit a potential agreement down the road.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t pass the medical, I wasn’t fit and healthy. But they said, ‘We’ll give you a call in six months or so, see how you are, and we’ll talk about bringing you back in,’ Obviously, the pandemic hit, I didn’t know what was happening – I didn’t wanna bother them, there are a lot more important things in the world.”
Samuels used the pandemic to get himself into shape and was subsequently offered a job in January 2021 by the next time he reached out to WWE.
“I got in shape over lockdown. I thought, ‘you know what? I’m gonna email them, see what’s going down,’” he smiled. “I emailed them, came back for another week, and got offered a job.”
As for how he’s keeping himself in shape now, Samuels says he is keeping a very strict exercise routine, focusing on getting tens of thousands of steps in per day.
”Getting 20,000 steps in a day minimum – which is a lot, a lot of walking,” he admitted. “But just put a podcast in and walk for ages. Watching my diet – they’re the main things.”
Fightful has live coverage of NXT UK every Thursday. This week, Samuels will be in action in a rematch vs. Flash Morgan Webster.
