UFC Vegas 40 Highlights: Norma Dumont Defeats Aspen Ladd In The Main Event
A card that looked less-than-stellar on paper delivered exactly that inside the cage. Check out the highlights from UFC Vegas 40 Fight Night after the jump.
Norma Dumont def. Aspen Ladd via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45)
For many, in a less than entertaining fight, Aspen Ladd simply didn’t show up, and Norma Dumont seemingly jabbed her for 25 minutes straight to get the decision victory. You won’t find many highlights in this one and Ladd didn’t look up to the task all evening long. The 48-47 score card is surely a questionable one as Ladd didn’t do much to earn the two rounds that she apparently won.

Andrei Arlovski def. Carlos Felipe via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Andrei Arlovski got off to an early lead using his volume striking, and then hang on through a fading gas tank to defeat Carlos Felipe. This fight wasn’t great, but its impressive Arlovski can put these type of performances together 35+ fights into his UFC career.

Jim Miller def. Erick Gonzalez via KO (Punch) (Rd. 2)
In the fight where he set the record for most UFC bouts, Jim Miller scored his first knockout victory since UFC 200. Miller got rocked early in the first round, but he hit a reactive takedown and was able to get his wits about him, and come back and still win the first round with some accurate left hands. Miller’s goal of getting to 40 UFC fights seems well in-sight, and his other goal of fighting on UFC 100, 200 & 300 seems quite possible.

Manon Fioret def Marya Bueno Silva via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
Manon Fioret looked impressive in her UFC debut, using a volume striking approach and even mixed in the odd takedown to get the decision victory over Marya Bueno Silva. Not the most thrilling fight, but a professional win, for someone who’s had a good deal of buzz prior to her debut.

Nate Landwehr def. L’udovit Klein via Submission (Anaconda Choke) (Rd. 3 2:22)
After a competitive back and forth affair, Nate Landwehr secured the submission in the third round with an anaconda choke over L’udovit Klein. Landwehr had threatened with a similar submission the previous round, but was able to secure the tap his second time around. Fun fight.

Bruno Silva def. Andrew Sanchez via TKO (Punches) (Rd. 3)
After dropping the first two rounds, Bruno Silva stormed back in the third round to get the stoppage victory over Andrew Sanchez. Sanchez had hit Silva low twice in the second round, and after a third low-blow, Sanchez had a point deducted, and Silva seemed to get very mad, and poured on the offense, and got a tired Sanchez out of the fight.

Danny Roberts def. Ramazan Emeev via Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29)
In another striker vs. grappler matchup, Danny Roberts was able to win comeback UFC bout after a two year layoff by keeping the fight on the feet for the majority of the last two rounds against Ramazan Emeev. Not a thrilling bout, and the 30-27 score card for Roberts feels nuts, as Emeev surely won the first round, but good to see “Hot Chocolate” back on track.

Luana Carolina def. Loopy Godinez via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
In a classic striker vs. grappler matchup, Luana Carolina was able to keep the fight on the feet for the latter two rounds, and emerged with the slim decision victory. A hard-fought very close bout, that was a credit to Godinez who set the UFC record for quickest turn around after making her UFC debut just last weekend. Not only Godinez fight on a week’s notice, but she did it up a division, and against a fighter who had a 7 inch reach advantage.

Danaa Batgerel def. Brandon Davis via TKO (Punches) (Rd. 1)
Mongolia’s Danaa Batgerel moves to 3-0 inside the octagon, with three first round stoppages after a very quick fight vs Brandon Davis. Batgerel caught Davis with multiple heavy shots from range, and one of them finally dropped Davis, and the fight was stopped very shortly after that. Very impressive for Batgerel, and the deep Bantamweight division looks to have another tough contender emerging.

Ariane Carnelossi def. Istela Nunes via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) (Rd. 3 2:57)
After dropping the first round to UFC newcomer Istela Nunes, Ariane Carnelossi used a lot of forward pressure to press Nunes up against the fence, and grind for takedowns over the rest of the fight. Eventually, in the third round, she found the finish from the rear-naked choke. Good gameplan, and persistent aggression was the difference from Carnelossi.
