CM Punk: Powerhouse Hobbs Is A Guy Who Was Going To Knock My Dick In The Dirt
CM Punk was destined to be a babyface upon arriving in AEW, making his return after seven years away in front of his hometown of Chicago.
Punk came out of the gate with a feud against Darby Allin, who became one of the top babyfaces in AEW over the past year. For his second feud, Punk wanted a more traditional story.
“I think I need to show different looks,” Punk said on AEW Unrestricted when discussing his desire to wrestle Powerhouse Hobbs. “I didn’t dream in my wildest imagination that I could be this big of a babyface. It’s pretty crazy and I think we need to ride the wave. I never liked baby-baby matches and always felt that somebody needs to be the heel. I don’t have any of that with Will Hobbs. I have a guy that is going to knock my dick in the dirt and I’m going to get to sell. I just hope there are some kids in the back watching and going, ‘Oh wow, it’s cool to sell.’ I think of Ricky Steamboat, one of the best sellers of all time and it’s an art. Really trying to make some simplistic stuff and get the most out of very little. I’ve been impressed with Will Hobbs, the way he moves, and anyone can see that he has potential.”
Punk and Hobbs would square off at AEW Rampage Grand Slam with Punk picking up the victory.
