Adam Cole Knew AEW Was Going To Be Special From The First Press Conference
Though he was on the opposite side in the Wednesday Night Wars, Adam Cole knew AEW would stick around.
AEW came to fruition in January 2019 with a press conference held in Jacksonville, FL. The press conference featured The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho, and more. Though many weren’t sure AEW would last as plenty of people have come along to start rival promotions to WWE, Adam Cole always believed in his friends.
“I was so excited because of my relationship with Matt & Nick [Jackson], I knew how serious this was going to be,” Cole told Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho. “I knew, between the roster that started coming out with the big press conference and you [Chris Jericho] are there and PAC is there and the Bucks and Kenny, I knew this was going to be special. You could feel the energy and the vibe, not just in person when the fans were there, but in this day and age with social media, it’s really important. The social media buzz around AEW was so strong. When the first couple of shows started happening, I was like, ‘This is great.’ It was a real true alternative that was just knocking it out of the park every time. I was actually, even before the first few shows, I was very confident it was going to do well. I don’t know if anyone expected it to blow up the way that it has. It’s so cool to watch and it’s so awesome. Now that we’re here, I’m excited to see where AEW will be a year or two from now.”
Cole officially joined AEW at All Out, realigning with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.
Cole is set to take on Jungle Boy on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
