Drew McIntyre Doesn’t Care Where He Lands In The WWE Draft, He Just Wants Fresh Matches
Drew McIntyre isn’t so much worried about where he ends up following the WWE Draft, he is just really excited to see the rosters shaking up and the possibility for new programs.
Drew McIntyre was the flag bearer for WWE through one of its most difficult and uncertain time frames in the company’s history, the global COVID pandemic. Because of this, Drew got to experience moments that never have happened before such as winning in the main event of WrestleMania inside an empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
The months that followed also saw Drew McIntyre defend the WWE Championship against such names as Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler from an empty PerformanceCcenter before the advent of WWE ThunderDome just in time for SummerSlam 2020 and his successful WWE Championship defense against Randy Orton.
Drew McIntyre was the main focal point of Monday Night Raw from January 2020 until Hell in a Cell 2021 when he lost to Bobby Lashley and lost the right to challenge for the WWE Championship for as long as Bobby Lashley would remain WWE Champion.
Of course, now that Bobby Lashley is no longer WWE Champion, those provisions have been lifted and if Drew McIntyre desires, he can challenge Big E for the WWE Championship. However, there is a draft right around the corner and Drew McIntyre is waiting to see how the landscape shakes out before making any concrete decisions.
Speaking to Eat, Sleep, Suplex, Retweet during a press event in Glasgow, Scotland, Drew stated that he was looking forward to the draft because he is ready to shake things up as he feels he has done everything he possibly can with the current roster on Monday Night Raw.
“There is no guarantee [either Roman Reigns or Big E will be on either of the respective brands they are currently on]. I could be on any show, if you listen to the internet, they want SmackDown as the place for me to be. I’m excited for the draft and mixing things up. I think there’s been a significant amount of time that we have had the Raw roster and the SmackDown roster, we have had a lot of good feuds. But for me personally, I think I’ve pretty much worked with everybody that I want to work with on Raw and I’m excited for things to get mixed up now and get into some good programs. That’s what I care about, the story. I know there’s some good stories that I could be able to tell on SmackDown. So be it if I go there or if they come over to Raw, I don’t care. I’m just excited for the future feuds.”
He continued, “I look at something like Seth and Edge, how good they are together. I want to work with both individually. Seth and I have done a lot with roles reversed where I was the bad guy and he was a good guy. We had my first title defense, and probably the most underrated match ever. For the pay-per-view that was right after WrestleMania and there was nobody there that Performance Center and I enjoyed that match so much, he’s so good, but from a story perspective, I know that we can do some cool stuff, he’s actually a bad guy and wants to be bad, which is always nice. Edge is Edge. Again, I know all the storytelling would be unbelievable, because he’s an absolute master at it. I got to be in the ring with him a lot when I was younger, where I’m at now, where he’s at now, could be really good would be some really cool stuff.”
Previously, Drew McIntyre has stated that he is open to facing Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship should the draft shake out that way. Learn more here.
The draft will begin on Friday, October 1, 2021, on Friday Night SmackDown and run through Monday Monday Night Raw on October 4.
