Jorge Masvidal On UFC Fighter Pay: “I Want Every Single Guy That’s On The Roster To Get What They Deserve”
UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal gave his opinions on the current state of UFC fighter pay.
He spoke with Ariel Helwani on the latest edition of The MMA Hour and discussed what he believes needs to happen in order for everyone on the roster to get paid what they rightfully deserve.
“Fighters are very individual creatures,” Masvidal said. “We’d have to come together under a roof or something like that and have each other’s best interests at heart. That in itself is a problem. I want every single guy that’s on the roster to get what they deserve. It’s crazy, you know some people are happy, the next guy that’s not even in the UFC might be just happy to get there. I think in the future something will happen, but I hope more people keep bringing attention to it because I think it’s messed up.”
He also continued on to give his prediction for the upcoming boxing bout between YouTuber Jake Paul and former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, vehemently showing his support for Woodley.
“So I don’t think – I know Jake’s never been in there with a guy like that, that’s explosive, is a good athlete, and has a ton of experience over him,” Woodley said (h/t MMA Fighting). “So if Jake wins, f*cking wild, my hat’s off to him, I was wrong, I don’t know sh*t about fighting. But, chances are, Woodley’s going to knock him the f*ck out. I think Jake’s a good athlete, but Woodley’s a different type of athlete, that next next level. Jake’s going to feel it in the fight. I don’t think he’s even ever sparred with somebody as athletic as Woodley that can cover the distance that he can. If Woodley was to get tired or hurt, he can clinch him, and there’s nothing Jake could do. The referee will break it up, but there goes four or five seconds. He’s going to get manhandled in the clinch. I see Woodley.”
