Rey Mysterio: Eddie Guerrero Was A Genuine Person Who Always Left It All In The Ring
Eddie Guerrero was a trending topic this past weekend after fans and wrestlers came to his defense following one Twitter user calling him a “B+ player.”
No one was closer to Eddie than Rey Mysterio, who spoke with WWE’s El Brunch in November 2020 (Translation via Luis Pulido) about Eddie as a person.
“Eddie was a genuine person. Every time you saw him get in the ring, he always left it all – and you do not learn that stuff, you are born with it. Coming from the family he came from, which is a historic family from his father to all of his brothers. I got to experience that with Eddie and, in a way, I got to absorb that joy and passion he had for the sport of wrestling. What makes him even more beloved, and we will never forget him because of it, was how he behaved outside the ring. Eddie came to our house after a San Diego SmackDown and we told him to stay over. After my children went to sleep, we talked in the jacuzzi for like 3 hours about everything there was to talk about. From wrestling, family, our childhoods, we talked about everything and I treasure that moment like it was yesterday. Before he left the house, he told my wife that ‘God lives in this house. There is a beautiful spirit and harmony and I had an incredible time.’ Eddie was very spiritual, so hearing that from him is a priceless moment,” said Rey.
Rey and his son Dominik continue to pay tribute to Eddie in their matches, often using his taunts or moves.
Eddie’s wife Vickie and his nephew Chavo are still involved in the wrestling business as well and currently work for AEW.
