Tag Team Bout Set For 6/18 Episode Of WWE SmackDown; ‘Battle For The Crown’ Also Announced
A tag team match has been made next week’s episode of WWE SmackDown.
On June 11, Sami Zayn and Apollo Crews teamed up to face Kevin Owens and Big E. The match ended after Big E knocked Crews to the outside, allowing Owens to hit Zayn with the Stunner for the pin and win. After the bell, Apollo grabbed the mic and asked why they were celebrating, believing that the only reason they won is because he was burdened with Sami.
Apollo then challenged Owens and Big E to a match versus himself and his Commander Azeez on June 18th, the go-home show to Hell In A Cell. This will be the first time Azeez has competed in a match since he joined Apollo ahead of WrestleMania 37. Furthermore, this will be Azeez’s (formerly Dabba-Kato) first match since a September 2020 Raw Underground loss to Braun Strowman.

Big E and Owens both have had issues with Azeez. First, he cost Big E the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. He also assaulted Owens backstage ahead of his title match last week. He has been instrumental in nearly all of Crews’ victories.

After losing to Shinsuke Nakamura on June 11th, King Corbin visited Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville and demanded that Nakamura return the crown he stole. The SmackDown Officials decided that rather than hand over the crown, it be defended in a match on the June 18 episode of SmackDown. Pearce dubbed it the ‘Battle for the Crown,’ much to the chagrin of Corbin.
