Todd Pettengill Recalls Giving Away A House To A Kid At First WWE In Your House
Todd Pettengill returned to WWE television on Sunday as the host for NXT TakeOver: In Your House.
Pettengill had become synonymous with In Your House since the pay-per-view brand debuted in 1995, famously giving away a house on the inaugural event.
Speaking on the Two Man Power Trip podcast, Pettengill recalled the moment he gave away a house to an 11-year-old.
“When I was talking to him, I was like, ‘he sounds like a kid. Am I allowed to give a house to a kid?’ I just kept going, did my thing, and he won a house. Everyone was quiet. After the show, I was sitting with Kevin and I was like, ‘Dude, I expected you to say something in my ear that I couldn’t give a kid a house.’ Kevin [Dunn] would rib you along the way because he was always in your ears for pay-per-views. It was always Kevin, no one else. His voice became part of the experience. I said, ‘Dude, you let me give a house to a kid.’ ‘The rules are the rules. I just wanted to see how you’d react.’ He was always talking and it was dead quiet, so I just keep going. Usually, I’d get a wrap. There was nothing and I was talking to a kid who is screaming his head off. I’m like, ‘where is Kevin?'” he said.
When asked about the idea that WWE would give away a house on live television, Pettengill replied, “It was amazing, and the logistics of giving away a house on live television are also fairly mind-blowing. I remember the call wouldn’t go through, so we’d have to do it again, but you have to make it entertaining. Then a kid winds up winning it. I think it was Johnny Gargano that said the house is now a Taco Bell.”
Indeed, it was Johnny Gargano who told Fightful that the house is now a Taco Bell. You can find Gargano’s full comments by clicking here.
