SHIMMER: ‘All That Matters Is That Women’s Wrestling Is Flourishing Right Now’

SHIMMER is for the celebration of all women’s wrestling.

On Tuesday, June 8, the National Wrestling Alliance announced that they would be hosting their first-ever all-women event.

When asked about this event and whether or not WWE would be hosting another all-female event, Triple H stated that he felt the best women wrestlers in the world worked for WWE and those that don’t, want to.

This led to several wrestlers responding to his remarks on Twitter including Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker who competed in the first-ever woman’s main event of AEW Dynamite in a bloody Lights Out Match.

Now, SHIMMER, the independent promotion that helped grow the careers of several wrestlers including Ember Moon, Mercedes Martinez, Bayley, and more, gave their take on the issue.

In a tweet from the promotion’s official account, they spotlighted the many women’s events through the years that all helped shape and grow where women’s wrestling is today and stated that that growth should be celebrated instead of trying to quantify any single event’s worth in the growth of women’s wrestling as opposed to another event.

It’s silly to see wrestling folks somewhat arguing with one another about which promotion did what first for women’s wrestling. Tor Berg’s LPWA did the first all women PPV in 1992. That doesn’t take away from what WWE later did with Evolution, what Impact did with its One Night Only PPVs focusing on the Knockouts, what indies like us have done on a smaller iPPV level, what the NWA is going to do later this year, or what promotions in Japan have done for decades to give the rest of us an example to follow. All that matters is that women’s wrestling is flourishing right now, compared to 15 years ago, and it’s a result of the entire industry working hard to make the necessary changes to make it all happen. Let’s celebrate that and support everybody!

Mickie James, who announced the upcoming NWA event, recently commented that she just wants to help grow women’s wrestling. Learn more here.
