Floyd Mayweather, Logan Paul Go The Distance: Mayweather vs. Paul Review

There was no official winner between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul, but both had fun for eight rounds in Miami.

Inside Hard Rock Stadium, Mayweather and Paul went out there to put on a show. While Mayweather had a lot more experience compared to Paul, the latter was able to survive an onslaught by the Hall of Fame fighter.

“He was strong, tough and better than I thought he was. I was surprised by him tonight,” Mayweather said after the fight. “That was some good little work. Even without much experience, he knew to use his weight to tie me up tonight. I had fun tonight. I thank all the fans who came out, you’re all unbelievable.”

Round one was a feeling out process, as both were trying to get an idea of what the other one can do. Paul started with a few jabs, but Mayweather would land counter jabs. Throughout the fight, Paul would use his large frame to move back Mayweather, who was not happy at all. Phantom jabs by Paul would force Mayweather to push back, but it ended up looking like a classic defensive performance by Mayweather.

By rounds three and four, Mayweather was starting to get in a groove while Paul looked tired. Mayweather landed counter rights to the body and would follow it up with an uppercut and a left hook. He would continue to do so in round five, as Paul was just holding Mayweather. Between the fifth and sixth rounds, Paul was standing up, trying to show his toughness. It did not translate to what was going on in the ring, despite what his brother Jake was saying.

Mayweather was getting into a true groove in the later rounds, landing body shots while teasing Paul. Both would land shots in the clinch, and Paul wanted to make it a true show. He was playing around and getting the crowd into it. When the final bell rang, both took in everything, even though some of the fans in attendance were booing.

After the fight, Paul was able to bury the hatchet with Mayweather and his crew.

“I don’t want anyone to tell me anything is impossible ever again,” Paul stated. “The fact that I got in here with one of the greatest boxers of all time, it proves the odds can be beat. Anyone can beat the odds and do great things in life. This is one of the greatest nights of my life, I’m happy.

“It’s an honor to share the ring with Floyd. He’s one of the GOATs. This is one of the coolest things ever.”

In the end, Mayweather landed 43 of 107 shots, while Paul landed 28 of 217. According to CompuBox, Paul didn’t land more than five punches in any round. When asked if he would ever fight in exhibition bouts, again, Mayweather was not sure he would do so again.
