Report: Challenger Set For Roman Reigns’ Universal Title At WWE Hell In A Cell 2021
Rey Mysterio is set to face Roman Reigns, according to a new report.
“The Biggest Underdog vs. The Big Dog,” a main event anywhere in the country.
According to a new report by Dave Meltzer, Roman Reigns vs. Rey Mysterio is currently the planned WWE Universal Championship match for WWE Hell in a Cell 2021.
On the June 4 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Rey and Dominik Mysterio defended their championship against Jimmy and Jey Uso twice in the same night. In the first match, due to an obscured view, the referee missed Jimmy Uso’s shoulder being off of the ground and counted a pinfall.
Roman Reigns was infuriated with this and demanded that his cousins secure a rematch and in the later rematch on the same evening, Roman Reigns hit the ring and beat the hell out of Rey Mysterio and his son. Reigns would go as far as to choke Dominik Mysterio out with the guillotine choke.
At last year’s event, Roman defeated Jey Uso by using the same Guillotine choke on Jimmy Uso that he used on Dominik Mysterio forcing Jey to quit to save his brother.
If Rey Mysterio does get this match and defeats Roman Reigns, he will become the first Superstar to win the WWE Championship, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and the WWE Universal Championship.
This year’s Hell in a Cell will mark the end of the WWE ThunderDome pay-per-view events as WWE goes back on the road on July 16. It was recently announced that SummerSlam will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 21, emanating from Allegiant Stadium. Learn more here.
Fightful will continue to monitor the story as Hell in a Cell draws near. We’ll have live coverage of the event on Sunday, June 20.
