Mick Foley Reflects On His Wrestling Career And What He Regrets Most

Mick Foley reflects on his regrets in life and whether or not it was all worth it.

Undoubtedly, Mick Foley put his body through more punishment for the benefit of wrestling fans than almost any wrestler on a global scale. Nowadays, Mick Foley openly speaks about the physical pain that he lives with on a daily basis after having such a wild career as Mankind, Dude Love, and Cactus Jack.

In the closing of his A&E Biography special, Mick Foley reflects on the truthful answer he can give fans when they asked him if his wrestling career was worth it. For Mick, even though he knows the impact that he has had on the lives of others, he also knows that there will be days where he has to ask himself those serious questions.

“I know how unusual it is for someone like me to feel optimism about tomorrow after what I’ve put myself through in countless yesterdays, but when I’m asked about my life, I can look people in the eye and answer them truthfully. ‘Yes, it hurt. No, I’m not a psychopath, I don’t think. And yes, I do have some regrets. There were times I’d put my family through the wringer, and they responded with the gift of acceptance. It’s a gift I will spend the rest of my life appreciating.’ I know that people are always going to ask those questions and I know that there will be days where I continue to ask myself, ‘Was it worth it?’”

Earlier in the documentary, Dewey Foley,  Mick Foley’s first-born son was quoted as saying that his favorite memories of his dad wrestling or the times where he didn’t get hurt. Noelle Foley, Mick Foley’s daughter, stated in the documentary that she feels as though she might have blocked out some of the memories of her father wrestling.

“It’s really weird because I don’t remember my childhood at all. I remember little pieces here and there, like hanging out with my dad. But, I don’t remember anything from wrestling. Part of me thinks I’ve blocked that out of my life,” said Noelle Foley when asked about her memories of King of the Ring 1998.

Elsewhere in the documentary Vince McMahon commented on that fateful day in June of 1998 by saying that he was not a fan of what Mick Foley went through on his watch. Learn more here.
