Chris Jericho: Vince McMahon Maybe Second Guessed Himself Once AEW Dynamite Rating Came In
Chris Jericho broke down the forbidden door by making an appearance on Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin.
The interview, which aired on Peacock the day of WrestleMania 37 night two, mentioned AEW multiple times and was approved by both Tony Khan and Vince McMahon.
Speaking to Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Jericho commented on his appearance and whether it could lead to more WWE and AEW collaboration.
“It was lightning in a bottle sort of thing with [respective company heads] Vince McMahon and Tony Khan giving their approval. I think it was also well-timed. The Peacock relationship with WWE was just starting. They wanted something huge out of the gate. It was perfect for us considering AEW had its first unopposed show [without NXT]. Once that big Dynamite rating came in though, I think Vince may have had a little bit of second-guessing. Would they do it again? Maybe. I don’t know if you can find anyone with respect and goodwill on both sides that would allow that. If they don’t do it again, it was one of the coolest moments in wrestling history,” he said.
The first AEW Dynamite following Jericho’s interview, which ran unopposed as NXT had moved to Tuesdays, drew 1.29 million viewers, which was way up from the 688,000 viewers the show drew the week before. AEW was up against NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one on the final Wednesday where the two shows went head-to-head.
Jericho is set to compete alongside The Inner Circle at Blood & Guts against The Pinnacle on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.
Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
