Starz Shares First Teaser Trailer And Release Date For ‘Heels’

After playing Oliver Queen for eight seasons, Stephen Amell is ready to become someone else. He’s ready to become something else.

Starz has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming series, Heels (seen above). In the clip, we see Stephen Amell as Jack Spade, a lawnmower salesman who wants more out of life. He enlists his washed-up quarterback brother, Ace (played by Alexander Ludwig), to help resurrect the Duffy Wrestling League. Jack wants and needs people to believe that they can be better. As the Spade brothers war over their late father’s legacy, somebody must play the good guy in the ring and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to – or hard to leave behind.

The first season will consist of eight one-hour episodes and will debut on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

Michael Waldron is credited with writing every episode in season one. He is notably one of the producers of the upcoming Loki series on Disney+. Peter Segal is also aboard as the director. He is perhaps best known for his work in the comedy department, helming films such as 50 First Dates, Get Smart, and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.

Amell is no stranger to the wrestling world, having performed alongside Neville at SummerSlam 2015. At that show, they defeated Stardust and King Barrett. He also faced Christopher Daniels at ALL IN. Cody Rhodes even made a couple of appearances on Arrow.

CM Punk will have a role in Heels, too. He will be playing a character known as Ricky Rabies and he has an accompanying valet, Vicky Rabies. Click here to see a photo of him in costume.

Here is the series’ official synopsis:

Written by Michael Waldron and directed by Peter Segal, with Mike O’Malley as showrunner, Heels is a story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals, Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) and Ace Spade (Alexander Ludwig), war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy (Ludwig) and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel (Amell). But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.
