Dwight Grant def. Stefan Sekulic via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28,28-29)
Dwight Grant got a controversial decision victory over Stefan Sekulic. It seemed that Sekulic had done enough work to get the decision through big moments on the feet, as well as securing takedowns in each of the three rounds. Sekulic even threatened with a very deep mounted guillotine choke as the fight came to a close. However, Grant got the surprise decision, to the surprise of the commentators, and the crowd alike.

Pat Sabatini put in a very solid performance in his UFC debut, by utilizing easy takedowns and proceeded to school Tristan Connelly in the grappling exchanges during the first two rounds. Sabatini transitioned from one dominant position to the next, and threatened multiple chokes, but failed to get the finish. In the third round, Sabatini knew he was ahead, and he got on his bike and stayed as safe as possible to coast to a decision win.

Danaa Batgerel def. Kevin Natividad via KO (Rd. 1 0:50)
The undercard continued to deliver in spades, as Mongolia’s Danaa Batgerel closed out the early portion of the prelims by knocking Kevin Natividad out on as nice a check left hook as you will ever see. These early prelims were fireworks top to bottom.

Kazula Vargas def. Rongzhu via Unaniamous Decision (30-26, 29-28, 29-28)
In a back and forth fight, Kazula Vargas scored the decision victory over the newest youngest fighter on the roster, in China’s Rongzhu. Vargas got especially close with a guillotine attempt in the second round, while Rongzhu started to do some fun styling in the third round. 29-28 seemed the correct scorecard one way or the other, so one of the judges finding a 10-8 round in this fight was surprising.

Jeff Molina def. Aoriqileng via Unaniamous Decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28)
A second absolute banger of a fight kicked off the card, as Jeff Molina weathered an impressive early storm from Aoriqileng to score a unanimous decision victory. This was a tale of two fights, Aoriqileng dominated most of the first two rounds by marching forward and throwing heat, but Molina dropped Aoriqileng twice in the second, and by the third, Aoriqileng was clearly spent, and Molina used him as target practice in an impressive third round, that led to his victory.

Ariane Carnelossi def. Na Liang via TKO (Rd. 2 1:28)
UFC 261 started with an absolute bang. Ariane Carnelossi and Na Liang welcomed fans back to the UFC octagon by having debatably the round of the year to kick off tonight’s card. Liang dropped Carnelossi within the first five seconds of the fight, and the rest of the round didn’t disappoint after that. Though Liang got off to a quick start and threatened with multiple submission attempts, she faded near the end of the first, and Carnelossi almost got the stoppage as the bell sounded. After some more ground and pound in the second the fight was called. If you missed this fight, go out of your way to see it. This fight was bananas.
