WWE Smackdown on FOX Results for 4/23/21 Who’s Next for the Head of the Table?

Good evening Fight Fans, and welcome to our coverage for tonight’s edition of WWE Smackdown on FOX!
– We open tonight’s show with a recap of last week’s before we open in the ThunderDome with Cesaro before he’s immediately interrupted by Seth Rollins who comes out onto the stage and the two exchange words until the two are interrupted by Jey Uso who surrounds the ring with Seth before Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring to even the odds. Seth and Jey then go to leave before Daniel and Cesaro challenge them to a tag match before Universal champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman come out onto the stage and mocks Daniel and Cesaro before wishing them luck as he and Paul leave and Jey and Seth head to the ring as we go to commercial.
Daniel Bryan & Cesaro vs Jey Uso & Seth Rollins
The four men brawl until the action spills out of the ring and the four men pair off before the match starts with Daniel and Jey in the ring as Daniel hits a float over suplex for two before dragging him to the corner and tagging in Cesaro as Seth is knocked off of the apron by Cesaro. Cesaro hits a delayed suplex for two before beating on Seth in the corner with uppercuts when he tags in before Cesaro misses a splash and Seth hits a sling blade before stomping him and Jey comes in and hits a running hip attack in the corner before Seth and Jey isolate Cesaro. Cesaro hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and gets the tag to Daniel who hits a missile dropkick before knocking Jey off of the apron and hitting a bridging German for two before Seth hits a buckle bomb into a diving splash by Jey for a near fall that Cesaro breaks up. Cesaro then sends Seth out of the ring before Seth suplexes Cesaro onto the floor as we go to commercial.
We come back from the break to Seth in control of Daniel as he hits a boot with Daniel draped over the apron before rolling him back inside and having words with Cesaro before getting the hot tag to Cesaro who rocks Jey with a flurry of strikes and drops him with a clothesline for two before hitting a springboard corkscrew uppercut. Jey. then counters the Neutralizer before DB takes out Seth with a suicide dive and Jey sends Cesaro out of teh ring before Cesaro catches him with an uppercut when he goes for a suicide dive before Jey drops Cesaro once they’re back in the ring as we go to commercial.
We come back from the break to Cesaro in control of Seth before Seth counters a swing int oa sunset flip before Cesaro locks in a Boston crab and Jey superkicks Cesaro to break the hold before Cesaro knocks Jey off of the top and Seth leaves the match and leaves Jey alone before Cesaro hits a superplex. Daniel then comes back in and hits a flying knee for the pin and the win.
Winner: Daniel Bryan and Cesaro defeat Jey Uso and Seth Rollins via pinfall.
– After the match Cesaro swings Jey as Daniel sits on the top turnbuckle and talks to Roman backstage before Cesaro drops Jey with an uppercut before swinging him again.
– Backstage Intercontinental champion Apollo Crews meets with Adam Pearce.
Tamina (w/ Natalya) vs Nia Jax (w/ Shayna Baszler & Reginald)
Tamina comes right at Nia and hits her with strikes in the corner before hitting a Thesz press and Shayna saves Nia from a suplex attempt before they end up at ringside and Tamina sends Nia into the barricade before Reginald distracts Tamina before Tamina pins Nia with a superkick for the win.
Winner: Tamina defeats Nia Jax via pinfall.
– We get a backstage interview with Kevin Owens before Big E shows up and the two laugh about what happened to Sami and Logan Paul at Wrestlemania and last week ahead of Kevin facing Apollo for the Intercontinental title up next as we go to commercial.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
Apollo Crews (c) (w/ Commander Azeez) vs Kevin Owens
Apollo backs Kevin into the corner before Kevin takes Apollo down with a side headlock take over before hitting a back elbow into a running senton and clotheslining Apollo over the top rope and down onto the floor before Azeer gets between Kevin and Apollo before Apollo rips Kevin off of the apron. Back in the ring Apollo then hits a float over suplex for two before Kevin comes back with a superkick into a swanton bomb for a near fall before Sami comes out to the ring as we go to commercial.
We come back from the break to Kevin and Apollo up top as Sami joins on commentary before Kevin hits a superkick for two before Apollo comes back with an enzuigiri before missing a splash in the corner and Kevin hits a release German into a pair of cannonballs for a near fall. Kevin hits a pop-up powerbomb for a near fall before going up top and hitting a splash off of the top and down onto Apollo at ringside before they get back into the ring and Azeez distracts Kevin and allows Apollo to roll him up for the win.
Winner: Apollo Crews retains his Intercontinental title by defeating Kevin Owens via pinfall.
– We get a backstage interview with Paul who says that likes Cesaro, but refuses to accept the challenge on behalf of Roman for a second week in a row for a title match at Wrestelemania: Backlash and that Roman will give his answer before the night is over.
– We get a video package promo by the returning Aleister Black who tells the story of his childhood before talking about how everyone is transforming their children into monsters and that they should be scorched from the earth.
– We get a backstage interview with the Smackdown Tag Team champions, Dolph Ziggler, and Robert Roode before they’re interrupted by the Steet Profits’ Montez Ford and we go to Bayley before Montez comes back in and interrupts her with Angelo on the phone before leaving as we go to commercial.
– We come back from the break to Bayley and Bianca having words backstage before Bayley leaves and Bianca is briefly interviwed before Bayley comes back and mocks her before leaving again.
The Mysterios vs Alpha Academy
Otis and Dom start the match off with Otis in control, dropping Dom repeatedly before Rey drags Dom out of the ring and AA take out the Mysterios at ringside as we go to commercial.
Chad is in control of Dom as we come back from the break before Otis comes back in and AA isolate Dom in the corner and tag in and out until Dom gets the hot tag to Rey who hits a head scissors into a sunset bomb for two before hitting a frankensteiner for two before the Mysterios double up on Chad before Otis runs into the announce table. Rey then hits a 619 into a diving splash for the pin and the win.
Winner: The Mysterios defeat Alpha Academy via pinfall.
– It’s announced that Apollo Crew will defend his title against Big E next week.
– Daniel and Cesaro come out to the ring and Roman comes out with Jey and Paul before Roman gets in the face of Cesaro and says that he hasn’t earned a title opportunity and that he’ll never be on Roman’s level and that he issues challenges around here. Roman looks at Daniel before challenging him to a title match next week before Daniel hesitates and Cesaro encourages him before Roman says that he wants him to disappear when he loses and that he has to leave Smackdown for good before Daniel accepts and Roman faces off with Daniel before leaving as we go off the air.
