TAELER: AEW Women’s World Championship On The Line April 21st

AEW recently added a Women’s Championship bout to their upcoming AEW Dynamite lineup. On April 21st AEW Dynamite will highlight the coveted AEW Women’s Championship Title as the current reigning and defending champion Hikaru Shida goes one on one with Dark Order’s Tay Conti. Both women will square off neither as strangers nor as particular friends as both aim for the same singular goal – The AEW Women’s Title.

Over the last six months AEW fans have seen a distinct elevation of the AEW Women’s Division. More time and money being plugged into the division has led to higher levels of competition within the division itself and other companies. More motivation for the talent themselves to continue to push themselves harder and of course the opportunity to be a part of all around better TV representation which was only a fleeting dream 20+ years ago. Both ladies are key players in this paradigm shift that’s shaking up the Women’s Wrestling landscape. And to be honest, both are women I’d love to work with as they are immensely talented with versatility and unmatched work ethics.

Barely a year into her AEW career post WWE, Tay Conti has continued to impress beyond expectations while simultaneously staying true to herself. A point that shines through within her body of work. I find her in ring style both exciting, fun, fierce, and nearly flawless. All of which gain her valuable momentum in reaching a new caliber with every AEW appearance. It’s no surprise to see Tay Conti in the title conversation. I’ve written that she would be and here we are. From being announced by AEW as a recent Wrestler of the Week to a top ranked performer and now the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship! This is no accident, its the pivotal point where hard work, focus, self belief, and preparation meets the point of opportunity. And that opportunity is AEW Dynamite April 21st on TnT Drama…

The pinnacle seat of AEW Women’s Division is a prestigious vantage point fought for by all but only held by one – Hikaru Shida. By point of fact, since AEW’s founding, there have only been three AEW Women’s Champions. Riho. Nyla Rose. And Hikaru Shida. While not the first, HIkaru Shida does in fact boast the incredible accomplishment of thus far being the longest reigning and defending AEW Women’s Champion. And what’s more, as of earlier this year, Shida herself surpassed all other AEW Champions in becoming the longest reigning AEW Champion period. Not far into 2021 Hikaru Shida supplanted Jon Moxley whose wildly impressive reign spanned 270+ days.

As it stands today, as I write this, Hikaru Shida has overcome all but one of her counterparts in her reign that has come to over 320+ days. Longer than the current IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo. Longer than Io Shirai whose title run recently came to an end at NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver at over 302+ days. Longer than Asuka who recently lost her Raw Women’s Title to Rhea Ripley at Wrestlemania. And longer than Sasha Banks’ 160+ day reign as Smackdown Women’s Champion that also came to an end at Wrestlemania when defeated by Bianca Belair. As Hikaru Shida pushes towards one year as AEW Women’s Champion, she continues to chase the NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray who is currently pushing towards 600 days…

On April 21st, will Hikaru Shida’s historical AEW Championship reign come to an end when she squares off against the up and coming Brazilian Badass of the Dark Order, Tay Conti? Or will Tay Conti fall short in perhaps the biggest opportunity thus far in her career as the aims to capture championship gold? Will Tay Conti be the woman to end HIkaru Shida’s supreme reign over the AEW Women’s Division? Or will Hikaru Shida due to Tay Conti what she’s done to all others? Britt Baker. Abadon. Thunder Rosa. Penelope Ford. Anna Jay. Big Swole…

Will Tay Conti be just another stop on Shida’s road to total dominance? Or, will we finally see a woman rise to answer the call and successfully become the new AEW Women’s World Champion? An impeccable feat to accomplish and therefore far more worth the earning to go down as the woman who defeated the longest AEW Champion. And thus becoming the new face of the AEW Women’s Division on TnT Drama! Will this match lead to a breach of the forbidden door? Who will you choose? Hikaru Shida or Tay Conti? Tune in on Wednesday April 21st to find out!
