Jey Uso Wins 7th Annual André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
A WrestleMania tradition took place on the April 9 edition of SmackDown.
In 2014, WWE introduced the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Cesaro won that inaugural match, with Big Show, Baron Corbin, Mojo Rawley, Matt Hardy, and Braun Strowman capturing it in the subsequent years.
Last year the match did not take place due to concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. It returned this year, however, it happened on the WrestleMania edition of SmackDown rather than at the actual event.
The final two contestants tonight were Jey Uso and Shinsuke Nakamura. It was Main Event Jey, though, who would emerge victoriously. This was his first televised victory since defeating Kevin Owens on November 6, 2020.
Uso and Nakamura briefly feuded back in January after Roman Reigns and his cousin cost Shinsuke a Universal Title shot just so they could make an example of WWE Official Adam Pearce. They faced off the next week with Shinsuke extracting a modicum of revenge, pinning Jey in a singles match.
