Kurt Angle Names Five All-Time Greats He Would’ve Loved To Wrestle At WrestleMania

Kurt Angle details his dream scenario for a match against Bret Hart and names several other legends that he would have loved to face at WrestleMania if Father Time were not an issue.

Kurt Angle has had several notable WrestleMania bouts with Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Brock Lesnar and others. Kurt Angle is also now in a position where he finds himself on the list of dream matches for many young performers.

Speaking on a special Q&A version of his podcast, Kurt Angle named five individuals from the past that he would have loved to face on the grandest stage of them all. Some of the names match up perfectly with Kurt Angle’s in-ring style and others Kurt admits that he would like to have had the matches for the sheer spectacle of it all.

“Okay, let me see. This is a little weird. [From] the past, I would say Bret Hart, Owen Hart, I would have loved to wrestle Andre The Giant. I know there wouldn’t have been much offense for my aspect, for my part, I know he would have been throwing me around like a rag doll, but it would be a lot of fun wrestling Andre. Anybody would want to wrestle Andre, why not? He’s 7 feet tall, 500 pounds, he’s a beast.

“I would say Iron Sheik just for the pure entertainment of it. The guy is freaking crazy, I absolutely love him and, you know what, this is a hard one but you’re going to understand why. I would say, Bob Backlund. Because he was a former amateur wrestler, a national champion, and I think we would have had a really solid match.”

Later, Kurt Angle would say that the potential of a Bret Hart matches something he thinks about every day, and if he could choose any era of Bret Hart, he would face 1995 Bret Hart in a 60-Minute Iron Man match.

“I would say 1995 Bret. I’ve watched film of him and I think he was at his best from 1995 to 1996. I loved watching him work, I think the gimmick would have been an Iron Man match, I think that would have best suited us. No gimmicks, just 60 minutes wrestling. Just like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart did. I believe that was in 1996. So, that’s the type of match I would have wanted with Bret. It would have been exciting and just a very successful match.”

Kurt Angle always had great chemistry with wrestlers who trained in the dungeon. Recently, he stated that his 2003 Royal Rumble match against Chris Benoit is his favorite match of all time. Learn more here.

Also, Kurt Angle stated in a 2020 interview with Chris Van Vliet that he tried to get Bret Hart to face him at WrestleMania 20 in 2004. Learn more about that here.
