Din Thomas: Eddie Alvarez’s “Achievements Surpass His Skill Set”

Eddie Alvarez might just have the most impressive list of accolades in mixed martial arts history, but Din Thomas says that does not equate to the best overall fighter.

Alvarez (30-7) will serve in the co-main event of ONE on TNT 1 vs. Iuri Lapicus (14-1). “The Underground King” has captured championship belts in five different organizations, including UFC and Bellator. Thomas gave his assessment on Alvarez’s career while examining a list of ex-pupil Dustin Poirier’s opponents.

“This was tough because I think Eddie’s achievements surpass his skill set. When you talk about body of work in a career, I don’t think there is anybody — with the exception of Conor [McGregor] — on this list who has had a career like Eddie,” Thomas explained. “He has dominated different leagues and here is a kid from the streets of Philly who came up on his own and did it all on his own. I remember seeing him back in New Jersey about 15-years-ago. He was just a kid. To watch him grow has been incredible. He is super tough, super durable.”

ONE on TNT 1 takes place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on April 7. The card is headlined by a ONE Championship flyweight title fight between Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson. Keep up with Fightful for your event-related coverage.
