Gilbert Burns vs. Stephen Thompson Planned For UFC 264
Top welterweight contenders Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson are set to scrap at UFC 264.
UFC President Dana White says Burns (no. 2) vs. Thompson (no. 5) has been verbally agreed to, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. The bout would serve underneath the big money trilogy fight of Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor 3.

Burns (19-4) is coming off a second-round TKO loss to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258. He entered the title fight on a six-fight winning streak punctuated by a win over Tyron Woodley.
Thompson (16-4-1) rides a two-fight winning streak with consecutive wins over Geoff Neal and Vicente Luque. Additionally, he holds victories over Jorge Masvidal, Rory MacDonald, Robert Whittaker and Johny Hendricks.
UFC 264 is currently scheduled for July 10. Not location or venue has been confirmed; however, White has expressed a desire to host the event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in front of a sold-out crowd. Keep up with Fightful for all your event-related coverage.
