Khalil Rountree Talks First UFC Win
While UFC Fight Night 104 may have been the third event of the year for the UFC, it was the event that saw Khalil Rountree gets his first win in the UFC. Rountree defeated Daniel Jolly by first round knockout via knee strike to the head, a knee strike that Rountree didn’t think was legal at first.
“My body just reacted,” Rountree told MMA Junkie. “I just saw a head. I think (it was legal); I’m not sure. Man, I don’t know. I’m in the moment, you know? I’d have to go back and (re-watch) the fight. I don’t know where it landed.”
Rountree may have been cut by the UFC if he had suffered his third consecutive defeat in the promotion, the other two losses came to Andrew Sanchez and Tyson Pedro. The highly touted prospect knew his back was against the wall on Saturday Night, which is why he switched up the way he normally fights.
“When you’re in survival mode, things just happen,” he said.
Rountree is a longtime veteran of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance promotion and he was also a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 23, he defeated Josh Stansbury on the show and also suffered a defeat to Cory Hendricks.
