WWE And Peacock Release Statements On The Removal Of Problematic Content From Past Events

Peacock and WWE address the recent changes made to past events on their platforms.

Peacock became the exclusive home of WWE Network in the United States on March 18. Shortly thereafter, viewers began to notice changes made to past events that seemed to single out problematic moments that aired during a different time.

Moments such as Roddy Piper vs. Bad News Brown, where Roddy Piper painted his body half black, were removed completely from the network. Following this revelation, The Hollywood Reporter reported that NBCUniversal had employees going through 17,000 hours of WWE content making sure that the content on the platform would live up to present-day ethics standards.

Now, both WWE and Peacock have released statements regarding the removal of content from the past events with both entities saying that the changes are to reflect the 2021 values of both companies.

NBCUniversal said that Peacock was “reviewing WWE content to ensure it aligns with Peacock’s standards and practices,” as it does other shows and films on the platform,” noted a New York Times article.

“Peacock and WWE are reviewing all past content to ensure it fits our 2021 standards,” WWE said in the piece.

Currently, episodes of Monday Night Raw on the platform only date back to 2008, therefore any changes to the fabled Attitude Era are yet to be seen.

Fightful will continue to monitor the story and report any and all updates.
