The Road To Wrestlemania Begins
While although Vince McMahon’s global fighting circus has been hampered by the effects of COVID-19, his mantra has always been that the show must go on and even though there has been nothing in the way of paying attendance, the WWE has not missed a step regarding its programming.
Week after week, month after month, network special after network special, the WWE content juggernaut has continued and with its jewel in the crown soon on the horizon, it is time to look ahead to Wrestlemania.
An event that will once again be spread over two nights and with the prospect of fans in attendance, it will be a huge step back towards normality for both the wrestling community and the whole of the United States.
Of course, with travel bans in place, it means that the legion of international fans will not be permitted to attend this year and with all things being well, they will be able to lend their voices in 2022 and beyond.
However, that does not mean the 25,000 fans who will be in attendance per night are going to be any less vocal and with all that pent-up emotion over the past year just waiting to explode, it seems as if this year’s Wrestlemania is going to be quite the spectacle.
A spectacle that sees Drew McIntyre look to claim back possession of the Raw brand’s WWE Championship and after losing the gold to The Miz recently, it is a different foe who now lies in wait for the Scot.
That’s because after an opportunistic theft of McIntyre’s title, The Miz then quickly saw himself disposed of the championship by Bobby Lashley and with The Hurt Business’s hired muscle at the top of mountain, it is going to take something special to dispose him.
With that said, McIntyre is certainly that special someone and after getting the better of Brock Lesnar at last year’s empty stadium Wrestlemania, the former 3MB member deserves to perform in front of a rapturous crowd.
While although there will be no British based support to cheer on McIntyre, he has won over a large support on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and when you consider just how much of a difficult year this has been for everyone, the sight of another title reign will be welcomed.
McIntyre will go into this fight as favorite and there will be plenty of sportsbooks who will be offering markets on such an outcome. While in a recent Sportsbetting ag review, they were deemed as one of the best places to put your money where your mouth is.
Of course, that is not the only title tussle which is scheduled for Wrestlemania and with Roman Reigns at the head of the Smackdown table, he is currently preparing to face this year’s Royal Rumble winner.
That man in question is Edge and with the legendary wrestler making his comeback last year, the past 12 months have been a rather stop-start affair, due to the former Tag Team specialist suffering serious injury.
Thankfully, those medical woes are now behind him and although the Universal Championship should currently be garnering Edge’s full attention, there is perhaps one other person who he needs to keep an eye on.
Because with Edge slamming a chair on both the backs of Reigns and Daniel Bryan at the Fastlane event, it seems as if the Smackdown title waters have been muddied somewhat and there is every chance that an additional component could be added to the blue brand’s main event.
With there being two nights of Wrestlemania action this year, there are several options that the booking team have and the first of those is to pit both Edge and Bryan together on the Saturday night.
In doing so, it could mean that either Edge is made to put his title shot on the line or if Bryan were to get the better of him, it would subsequently mean a triple-threat clash for the Universal Championship the following night.
This would be in a similar vein to Wrestlemania 30 and the year in which Batista and Randy Orton had their main event party eventually gatecrashed, as a three-way tussle including the Washington born grappler for the WWE Championship was finally booked.
Even with no fans in attendance on a weekly basis, you can see that there is once again a groundswell of support behind Daniel Bryan and who knows seven years down the line, history might just repeat itself.
