John Cena Willing To Do The Dirty Work In New ‘The Suicide Squad’ Trailer
The first official trailer for James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ has been released.
The filmmaker took to Twitter yesterday to share a new poster as well as announce that a red-band trailer was on its way. You can check out the clip below, via Warner Bros. Pictures.

The trailer is set to Steely Dan’s ‘Dirty Work’ and filled with action and, in unmistakable Gunn fashion, loads of humor. Not only does the footage show off the returning cast from David Ayers’ 2016 film, including Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg) and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), but it also introduces a slew of new characters while giving the audience a taste of their personalities.
In addition to the memorable introductions of King Shark (who says ‘nom nom’ before biting someone’s head off) and a deeply depressed Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), John Cena stood out. His interactions with Idris Elba’s Bloodsport were memorable and included him proclaiming that he’d be willing to eat dicks in the name of liberty.
Cena is currently filming a Peacemaker series for HBO Max.
The cast also includes names such as Sylvester Stallone, Michael Rooker (Savant), Flula Borg (Javelin), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher2), Mayling Ng (Mongal), Sean Gunn (Weasel), Pete Davidson (Blackguard), Peter Capaldi (The Tinkerer), Juan Diego Botto (Presidente General Silvio Luna), Joaquín Cosío (Mayor General Mateo Suarez), Jenn Holland (Emilia Harcourt), Storm Reid (Tyla), Alice Braga (SolSoria) and Nathan Fillion (T.D.K.).
This is Gunn’s first feature since 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He is expected to begin production on a third Guardians film in London later this year.
The Suicide Squad hits theatres and HBO Max on August 6.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Suicide Squad:
“Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.
Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.”
