Christian Cage Comments On Fans Being Disappointed By Him Being The Surprise At AEW Revolution
AEW promised a “Hall of Fame worthy” signing at Revolution, leading to rampant speculation as to who would be joining the company.
Fans floated the names CM Punk, Batista, John Cena, and just about every other big name under the sun. In the end, Christian Cage, who had just appeared at WWE Royal Rumble in January, was revealed as the new signing. Many fans cheered the newest AEW acquisition, but some were left disappointed.
Speaking on Sunday Night’s Main Event, Christian responded to fan backlash.
“When you make that kind of announcement, it doesn’t matter who it is, there’s going to be people who an opinion and they’re going to pick who they think it should be or who they want it be, and if it’s not who they want it to be, they’re going to be upset. It doesn’t matter who it is. That’s fine. That’s their choice and it’s pretty obvious that social media, especially wrestling fans, are very fickle. A lot of times, that’s just the way it goes. The same people saying if I went somewhere else, they’d be saying, ‘Oh, he’s not being used right.’ It is what it is. You take it with a grain of salt and move on,” he said.
Christian had previously said he thought his debut was going to be a secret and he would show up as a surprise, saying there was no deal officially signed when Paul Wight teased his appearance on the Dynamite ahead of Revolution.
